Crisis intervention counseling by an extremely well trained and qualified staff, supplemented by various forms of ongoing counseling, makes up the core of our baby saving program. Support Services
We "put our money where our mouth is" by giving away nearly a half million dollars in basic needs items to families in crisis -- and supplementing this with various additional assistance, provided by community referral agencies. St. Jude Chapel
Ours is not a battle against flesh and blood, but against principalitites and powers. Eucharistic prayer and adoration in our St. Jude Chapel is essential to our mission. Learn how much we make a difference, see a statistical analysis accumulated over years of baby saving work!

The Women's Center is committed to saving babies from death by abortion -- and their mothers and families from a lifetime of regret. We are not just there to give moralistic advice, but to offer encouragement and real help for those in difficult circumstances. To that end, we offer a staff which is very knowledgeable about referral services available in the community, and a material needs assistance program which offers nearly a half a million dollars in tangible help to families in need. All this is wrapped up in a blanket of prayer support, centered around Our Eucharistic Lord, through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and adoration in our St. Jude Chapel.

In 2003, we counseled about 5,900 young women, most of whom were seriously considering abortion. (About 3,400 of these turned out to be pregnant, after testing.) We offer ongoing counseling and referral services for alternatives to abortion, as needed. We also provide over $500,000 annually in tangible assistance in clothing, food, baby goods, furniture (especially cribs and baby needs), toiletries, and other basic family needs.

Over 1,000 children per year who would likely have been aborted, are brought to birth, because of our counselors' efforts.

The Women's Center was originally founded as Des Plaines Pro Life in 1983. With prayer as a foundation, our mission was to provide education about the injustice of abortion and help groups that provide alternatives to abortion. In 1984, a national umbrella organization encouraged leadership to open one or more crisis pregnancy centers in the Chicago area, citing the vast unmet need. The work expanded so quickly that its founder and current executive director, Conrad Wojnar, resigned his full-time management position with the federal government in September 1985, in order to provide effective fulltime management. Since that time, the organization has grown from a one-center operation, serving about 300 clients a year with a $50,000 budget to a three-center operation with a $1.3 million budget.

The organization is committed to pursuing a holistic approach to meet the needs of clients and their families. We recognize that each woman has unmet material, emotional and spiritual needs, which often interact to create the pressure to abort. We are very committed to after-care and have an extensive followup program to ensure that needs continue to be met. We also have an excellent program at Christmas time, involving Christmas parties and gifts which continue to meet basic needs for our clients and their families, gathered through the assistance of churches, agencies, and individuals.
